“Commuter towns in the west of Scotland with good links to Glasgow showed strong house price growth during over the past year - Bellshill (46%), Irvine (45%), Coatbridge (42%) and Motherwell (38%).

 

Despite house prices climbing by 16% in Q1, Lochgelly remains the most affordable town in Scotland with an average house price of £66,052.

 

Angus showed the highest house price gain by local authority of 33%, to £117,814, followed by the Highlands (32%) to £131,188.

 

East Renfrewshire has the highest house price of a local authority in Q1 2005 (£188,649) while Dundee City has the lowest (£89,690), although Dundee has seen house prices climb by 18% over the quarter.

 

Only five local authorities out of the 29 now have an average house price below £100,000 – North Lanarkshire, East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, West Dunbartonshire and Dundee City."
